Everyday settings in one place

Turn error-prone configuration into clear choices

SquirrelSet does not hide how Squirrel works. It explains the current state, the pending changes, and the final result.

Input behavior

Manage Left Shift, the Chinese/English key, Caps Lock, and conflicts caused by macOS input source settings.

Candidate window

Adjust horizontal or vertical layout, themes, fonts, size, spacing, and candidates per page with a live approximation.

Input schemas

Review installed schemas and control which ones appear in the Squirrel menu and in what order.

App rules

Set selected Mac apps to open in Chinese, open in English, or keep the current Squirrel state.

Backup and restore

Save related files together as complete configuration snapshots and restore them from one place.

Deployment diagnostics

Track saves, redeployments, and verification so you know whether a change actually took effect.

Live preview

See a close approximation while you adjust

Candidate layout, font size, pronunciation hints, and theme changes appear immediately in the preview. SquirrelSet writes and deploys only after you confirm.

  • Preview is separate from saving
  • Pending status remains visible
  • One confirmation saves and applies

Per-app control

Keep the right input state for each workflow

Select an installed app and choose whether Squirrel should enter Chinese, enter English, or keep its existing state.

  • Reads app names and identifiers automatically
  • Separates existing and new rules
  • Reviews all changes before saving

A clear save workflow

Understand, adjust, then verify precisely

SquirrelSet does not overwrite everything blindly. It reads the active Squirrel configuration first and applies changes only after safety checks and backup.

01 · Read

Identify the real environment

Detect the Squirrel installation, active configuration directory, valid schemas, and possible YAML issues.

02 · Preview

Inspect pending changes

The interface shows a live approximation and pending state without writing when you click a control.

03 · Apply

Back up, write, and verify

One action performs conflict checks, backup, safe writing, redeployment, and final result verification.

Local first

Your input configuration stays on your Mac

The current version requires no account, does not upload Squirrel configuration, dictionaries, or input content, and includes no advertising or behavior analytics.

Frequently asked questions

What to know before you start

Is SquirrelSet an input method?

No. SquirrelSet is an independent graphical configuration tool for Squirrel, which must already be installed on your Mac.

Will it replace my configuration files?

It changes only settings you explicitly confirm and creates a backup before writing. After saving, it reads the build result again to verify the outcome.

Does it require an account or internet connection?

The current macOS configuration features require no account and do not upload your configuration, dictionaries, or input content.

When can I download it?

The macOS version is being prepared for the Mac App Store. Formal Windows development will follow a stable macOS release.
